Which Credit Cards Offer Roadside Assistance?

Although no one can anticipate when they might have car trouble, it can be comforting to know that you have access to roadside assistance when you need it.

Also known as roadside dispatch, roadside assistance is an on-call service that can help you with your vehicle if you’re having trouble. The service can be used for things like changing a flat tire, getting towed to a repair shop or jump-starting a dead battery.

You may not even need to pay for a stand-alone service like AAA or AllState Motor Club if your credit card gives you roadside assistance benefits, but not all credit card roadside assistance is created equal.

The best credit cards for roadside assistance provide a subsidy for your service call. Others offer the service on a pay-per-use basis. The exact cost per use of the service will depend on several factors including the issuer and the contracted rate on your specific card. Here are the policies of several major issuers and card networks.

Visa

Roadside Dispatch is offered on all Visa cards and can be reached at 1-800-847-2869. For a flat fee of $79.95 per service call, you’ll get the following services:

No enrollment or membership fees are required.

Mastercard

Master RoadAssist Roadside Service is on select Mastercards depending on whether the issuing bank has opted to provide that service. Essentially, Master RoadAssist Roadside Service is a dispatch service that will contact a nearby towing or repair service on your behalf. The service can be accessed by calling 1-800-Mastercard (1-800-627-8372). The price varies based on the service you receive and the negotiated rate between the provider and Mastercard.

American Express

American Express does not offer roadside assistance benefits.

Discover

Discover no longer offers roadside assistance on any of its cards.

Bank Issuers

This includes the Capital One SavorOne Cash Rewards Credit Card, Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card, Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card and Capital One QuicksilverOne Cash Rewards Credit Card.

Bottom Line

Before you pay for an auto club membership, take a glance at the benefits you might already have in your wallet. Although many of the existing roadside assistance benefits offered by credit cards are fee-for-service, having one number to call in the event of an emergency or breakdown is more efficient and less stressful than having to find service yourself. By taking advantage of roadside assistance, you could save both money and more importantly have peace of mind when you need it.

For Capital One products listed on this page, some of the benefits may be provided by Visa® or Mastercard® and may vary by product. See the respective Guide to Benefits for details, as terms and exclusions apply.
