Middle School Waitlist Policies
Middle School Waitlists will open immediately after offers are made available. For families that submitted an application, please review the following information:
- Your child will be placed on the waitlist of any school that was listed higher on their application than the school that was offered. If your child receives their first choice, they will not be placed on any waitlist.
- Placement on a waitlist is determined based on your child's priority to attend the school. Students in a higher priority of attendance will be placed higher on the waitlist.
- If you applied to a screened program, your child's waitlist position is determined based on their rank by the school.
- If you applied to an open program, your child's waitlist position is determined based on the their random number.
- As seats become available, staff contact families in the order students appear on the waitlist.
- Waitlist positioning is available in MySchools. If you did not submit your application online, you can still view your child's waitlist position after creating an account and adding your child. For help with this, please review Getting Started in MySchools.
- Parents can also contact the school directly to obtain their waitlist position.
All families are able to add their child to waitlists for schools after the application results are available. Any student added to a waitlist will be placed at the end of their priority group. Your child can be added to waitlists as follows:
- Contact the program directly
- Visit a Family Welcome Center
- Online in MySchools
If you missed the application period and wants to add your child to a waitlist, please do any of the following:
- If your child attends Public School or Charter School please obtain their Welcome Letters from your child's current school and add their child to their MySchools account to place them on waitlists.
- If your child attends a Private, Parochial, or a non-DOE school please visit a Family Welcome Center to be placed on a waitlist.
- Note: After visiting the Family Welcome Center, you will be able to review their information online. Family Welcome Center staff will provide you with your child's Student ID number and Account Creation Code.
- If your child is not given an offer off from the waitlist and does not have a school for the following school year, your child will be given an offer to a school in your home district that has seats available.
