Key to categories of instruction:
Language Skills: The primary focus for these courses is on language skills such as speaking, listening, reading, writing, or signing.
Heritage Languages (listings shaded in pink): These courses focus on language skills for students who already have some ability in the informal spoken language, generally from exposure to the language at home.
Language Component: These courses offer language instruction in the context of the culture of another society. They are often taught in the original language and have prerequisite language requirements, but they may include literature in translation or films with English subtitles. Check the General Catalog course descriptions for more information.
Independent Study: These courses are offered under the guidance of an instructor for students who wish to develop or enhance language skills not covered in scheduled courses or in languages not otherwise taught on campus.
